My son has outgrown the days of taking Valentine’s to school, but that won’t stop me from creating fun versions for his teachers! I’m a firm believer that puns make the world go round, and couldn’t help myself from coming up with these turtley awesome, pun-tastic Valentine DIY tags. They were the perfect addition to my adorable Animal Jar Valentines!
Supplies needed to make your own valentine DIY jars:
- Miniature Plastic Toy Turtles
- Clear Plastic Storage Jars with Screw Lids
- Amazing Goop® Contact Adhesive and Sealant
- Watermelon Spray Paint
- Gloss Blue Ocean Spray Paint
- Turtley Awesome Valentine Tags
Begin by removing the lids and wiping them clean of any dust or debris. In a well-ventilated area, paint the lids with a light coat of spray paint in your desired colors. I chose a hot pink and light blue color that would work well with my Valentine’s color scheme for this year. Spraying them too thick will cause the paint to pool and drip. Allow the lids to fully dry before applying subsequent layers of paint.
While the paint on the lids is drying, remove the stickers from the containers. I soaked mine in hot soapy water first, which made the labels easier to peel. Some of the sticky glue residue remained, but was a cinch to remove with some glass cleaner and a paper towel.Once the lids have solid paint coverage, you can add the turtles. I let my lids sit overnight to ensure they were fully dry and wouldn’t chip. Although I have seen most animal jars using the same color animal as the lid, I wanted to up the ante and go with a mix and match version for a little more appeal. Apply a small amount of Amazing Goop Adhesive to the bottom of each of the turtles’ feet and then set them on top of your lids.
Gently push down on the turtles to ensure they adhere to the lids, being careful not to push too hard as they might slid across the lid leaving a smeared sticky trail in their wake. Not that I would know anything about that! LOL!
While you’re waiting for the adhesive to dry, download, print and cut the adorably punny turtle Valentine’s tags.
Now it’s time to fill your Valentine DIY jars with the goodies! The possibilities are endless, but I chose to fill them with colorful round chocolate candies. I just love the bright pops of color they add to the jars!Using the baker’s twine, tie a tag around each jar and they’re ready to be gifted to your Valentines!
Hopefully my son’s teachers will find the humor in these whimsical valentine DIY jars and will be inspired to fill them with treats or mini supplies after the holiday!
