With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought I would share a quick and easy last minute valentine gift idea. This mini heart DIY candy box is perfect for teachers, co-workers, and friends! Growing up my mother had a small jewelry box with a sequin lid. Each shimmering sequin was individually sewn on and I admired the work that went into making the beautiful jewelry box. Using that memory as inspiration I made this confetti DIY candy box and two ingredient toffee candy.
Supplies needed to make your own confetti DIY candy box:
- Paper Mache Heart Box.
- Pink Chalky Finish Paint.
- Heart Confetti.
- Hot Glue Gun.
- Melting Chocolate.
- Piping Bag
- Candy Mold.
- Paper Candy Cups.
Step one. Paint the paper mache boxes with Americana chalky finish paint. This is hands down my favorite paint line! This paint is great for covering dark surfaces without a primer. I applied two coats of paint with a small foam brush and let it dry for an hour. Since I planned to fill the boxes with chocolate, I withheld from painting the inside.
Step two. To decorate the DIY candy box, I used hot glue (you could use Mod Podge) and gold confetti hearts. I spread the hot glue around and then quickly poured the confetti on. Once it dried I shook off any excess confetti.
Step three. Melt 3/4 cup of your favorite chocolate (I used Ghirardelli dark chocolate). Use a piping bag to fill the candy mold. I added toffee bits but you could use any additional toppings/flavors you prefer. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Step four. Use paper cups to hold candy in place.
I’m really happy with the way the DIY candy box turned out. In fact, I love the confetti box so much that it inspired me to make a jewelry box in a similar style!
