Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so I wanted to get started right away with my decorating. First project of the year, this simple Valentine DIY love sign.
Since the farmhouse style is so popular right now I wanted to make a farmhouse style DIY love sign. But I wanted it to be a sign you can keep up all year long. This sign is absolutely perfect for that!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY love sign:
- Unfinished 12×12 Wood Shadowbox
- Cricut Vinyl Sampler Roll
- White Americana Decor Chalky Paint
- Silhouette Cameo
- Transfer Paper
- Wood Stain
- Paint Brush
I gathered all my supplies up first for this craft and was so excited to use this shadow box!
I used a dark walnut stain for my shadow box and I only needed one coat of stain. Let dry 3 hours.
Next, I cut out my stencil in vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo. I wanted to use a basic font for my “LOVE.” I weeded the excess vinyl so that only the letters would be left.
I added some transfer paper on top of my letters. This helps with transferring the letters to your wood. Since I cut everything to 12×12 it made it easy to center my “LOVE” perfectly in the middle.
Make sure to smooth it down so that your vinyl will stick to your wood. You can use a credit card or if you have the Silhouette tool already.
Now it’s time to add your paint!! I used chalk paint for this project. I always love using chalk paint for my signs. It really gives it the look I want. I did a total of two coats, letting each coat dry 30 minutes.
The fun part!! Peeling up your letters for the big DIY love sign reveal.
This DIY love sign was exactly the look I was going for. Perfect for a Valentine’s mantle but also something you can keep up all year if you wanted.
When I first saw this shadow box I knew it would be perfect to use for a farmhouse inspired sign. Everyone loves the look of farmhouse signs (Thank’s Chip and Joanna), but not everyone has the tools to make them. So this is a great frame to use to get the farmhouse look!
