I had so much fun making this easy hot air balloon craft wreath for Valentine’s Day and definitely will plan on using this wreath year after year! Consumer Crafts has tons of paint options if you’re not a fan of the red/pink/blue/silver color combination I used. Love is, indeed, in the air!
Supplies needed to make your own easy hot air balloon craft wreath:
- Paper Mache Hot Air Balloon
- Unfinished Wood Wreath Base
- Various Acrylic Paints
- Smooth Silver Glitter Cardstock Sheet
- Mini Willow Baskets
- Mountain Mist SuperFluff Fiberfill
- Hot Temp Glue Gun
- Hobby Knife
- “Love Is In the Air” free SVG file
Apply a couple layers of paint to the wreath base and set aside to dry.
Begin painting the different sections of the paper mache hot air balloon. You don’t have to go completely around the balloon since the back section will be cut off. Allow to dry completely before moving onto the next step.
Once dry, gently position the paper mache hot air balloon in the center of the wreath form. As you can see in the picture below, the balloon split a bit during this process. Don’t worry, you’ll be removing that section in the next step. Now that the balloon is in place, apply a line of glue where the paper mache meets the wreath. Repeat the glue application to the bottom of the balloon.
Once the hot glue has completely hardened, use a sharp craft knife to carefully remove the back section of the balloon. This will allow the wreath to lay flat against a wall.
Use hot glue to apply “clouds” and a basket to your easy hot air balloon craft wreath.
This step is optional but if you have a digital cutting machine, you can cut out the free “Love Is In the Air” SVG file in the supply list above. Use a sticker maker or adhesive spray to stick the letters in place.
Assemble the pennant flags (also found in the svg file) and glue in place around the hot air balloon. You can also use the heart cut outs to decorate the balloon further.
Your easy hot air balloon craft wreath is ready to hang and enjoy! Hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day surrounded by love!
