As I shared in my photo to wood transfer tutorial, I enjoy transferring images to other surfaces to create personalized projects. The technique I shared in that tutorial does have a bit of a learning curve, so while you practice to master that technique, here’s a simpler process you can try: use printable tattoo paper to make your own image transfer!
While this product is designed and marketed to be used with the Silhouette cutting machine, you can use the product even if you don’t have a machine. You just need a printer!
Supplies needed to perform your own image transfer:
- Wood Tissue Box (or other wood surface of your choice).
- Craft Paint (I used silver).
- Silhouette Printable Tattoo Paper.
- Krylon Triple Thick Clear Glaze Spray.

Could I use this method over chalk based paint? Can I print these images on a regular printer or do they have to be on a laser jet also? Thanks!
You can use the Silhouette Tattoo Paper with an inkjet paper. We haven’t tried this technique with chalk paint so we can’t speak to the results but we don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
What is best Laser or Ink Jet printer?
Thank you so much for sharing those adorable images. I don’t have a fancy machine but did print them out on white card stock first to see how spacing would be, then on a transfer and last on a piece of polka dot vellum. Like to have things handy when/if a wonderful idea hits. Love these and hope to make something delightful for gifts.
I have to have anything going to make done by Dec. 7th. as am having right shoulder replaced on that day, at least I’m left handed. No more creating for me, will be hard as I have such a good time making things for gifts and my home during that time of year. Good thing I turned down being in a craft show, didn’t know about surgery when I did. Not sure I’ll even be up to attending the show just to look but life goes on and I will recover, this is just a bump in the road. Have had a few of those. When I had knees replaced, were done Nov.08 and left leg, Dec. 14th, 2009. That one was harder as didn’t get out of hospital until week before Christmas. But at least I could lie on bed to make things. Guess it just depends on how hard a person needs to create huh? lol. Have great week, love these cards and images you so kindly shared.
This post has been sitting in my inbox since it came out! Yikes! Today I am revisiting and pinning. Great idea! Can’t wait to try it.
