I love using color for home décor, but when Christmas time comes around I like to use simpler colors and natural decorations instead. There’s something about pine trees and snowy white colors that’s so calming and comforting to me. That’s how I got the idea to make this charming, DIY wood Christmas sign! I love the contrast between the wood and the white lettering – it’s the perfect blend of simple and festive.
Wood plaques are a fun option for DIY’s because you can double their value by making them reversible. Double up on holidays by adding a Thanksgiving quote to one side and a Christmas quote to the other. When one holiday is over, all you have to do is flip over the sign! Plus, who doesn’t love when you can use holiday décor for more than one occasion?
Supplies needed to make your own DIY Wood Christmas Sign:
Step 1. First, pick out your desired stain color (or even a dark paint color) and stain your wood plaque. Let it dry for the designated time as listed on your stain instructions.
Step 2. Download the “Merry & Bright” file and plan your phrase to fit your wood plaque. You can always move the words around so you use less vinyl. Once you have it just right, mirror, cut out and weed. Then, carefully iron your phrase onto the plaque.
Step 3. Place in your favorite spot, and you’re done!
I seriously LOVE how this sign turned out! I also love styling it next to bottle brush Christmas trees to tie in a pop of neutral color.
What’s your favorite Christmas phrase? Do you like simple holiday decor or a more modern approach? Whatever your style may be, Merry Christmas!
