I must admit, I am all about non traditional colors for holidays. Rainbow pumpkins for Halloween? Yes! Cotton candy colors for Christmas? You bet! But, it’s not always easy to find these colors in store bought decorations, so a little DIY action is needed. These DIY paint splatter ornaments were one of the decorations I DIY’ed to make all my cotton candy Christmas dreams come true. And they are easier to make than you might think!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY paint splatter ornaments:
- Clear Glass Ornaments (I used the iridescent ones for a little extra shine)
- Acrylic Paint (I used bright blue, cherry blossom pink, fun fuchsia, island blue, and melon)
- Metallic Gold Acrylic Paint
- Paint Brush
Begin by removing the metal top of your ornaments and squirting a bit of paint into the ornament. Shake, tap, and move your ornament about to evenly distribute the paint around the inside. Then turn them over in the container to let the extra paint drip out. Repeat with all your ornaments.
Now, let the paint dry. You may want to use a blow dryer to blow into the ornaments to get the paint to dry quicker and prevent it from all dripping out the opening. Finally, use your gold paint and paint brush to add gold splatter flecks onto the ornaments by taping your paint brush on your finger over the ornaments.
Once the gold splatter paint is dry, replace the metal lid, add your hook and hang on your very own cotton candy colored tree!
To go along with my custom colored DIY paint splatter ornaments I made few colorful snowflakes and bottle brush trees. Just use the extra acrylic paint on these bottle brush trees and a few wooden snowflakes for the perfect candy colored winter wonderland!
So, now that you have seen how easy it is to create your own custom colored Christmas tree, tell me, what colors would you choose?
