Create some memories for your tree with this DIY handprint ornament for Christmas. Add those little hands to an ornament that you can pull out year after year. I love the memories that come from the box of ornaments for our tree. I can now add this one to our collection. See how to make your own version below.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY handprint ornament:
- Black Disc Ornament
- White Craft Paint
- Red Craft Paint
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun
- Assorted Pom Poms
- Google Eyes
- Holiday Ribbon
- Round Sponge Brush
The most difficult part of this project is actually getting your handprint. Coat the child’s hand with white paint and lay over the ornament. It will not be perfect but that is the point of this handmade ornament. Allow the print to dry completely before continuing.
Then use the red paint to go over the “hat” portion of the print (see below). I used a sponge brush for this task. Allow the red paint to dry completely before continuing.
Use hot glue to add on pom pom nose, google eyes, and a ball for Santa’s hat.
String up with ribbon or string and add to your tree for an amazing memory year after year. This works best with babies and toddlers as their hands are small enough to fit on the ornament completely. An older child’s hand might extend past the ornament but I think you could make it work! Give this handprint ornament for Christmas a try for your tree. These also make great gifts for grandparents, aunts, and more. Get those black ornaments and get started on your own version today.
While you are making ornaments with the kids, be sure to try these cinnamon stick tree ornaments. Perfect for little hands to make and they will smell great in your home as well.
You can also use puzzle pieces to make these fun puzzle piece reindeer ornaments!
