I’m pretty much of the mindset that as soon as Halloween is over, it’s time to start with the Christmas decorations! And if you are hand making any of the decorations like me, it doesn’t hurt to get started early! These DIY confetti paper mache tree decorations are a super simple and fun project for both adults and kids alike. Who knew tissue paper and paper mache cones could look so festive?!
Supplies to make your own paper mache tree decor:
- Paper Mache Cones
- Tissue Paper in assorted colors
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush
- White Acrylic Paint
Begin by painting the cones white. This step is optional, but I liked the white base behind the tissue paper confetti so that the colors of the tissue really pop!
Next, use your scissors to cut the tissue paper into tiny confetti squares. I actually used a rotary cutter and mat to get the perfect little squares, but it is easy to do with scissors too. Just cut long strips first and then cut the strips into squares.
Once the confetti is made in your desired colors (I went with a red/pink combo and a shades of green combo), it’s time for the fun part! Give your tree a coating of Mod Podge, then sprinkle the confetti over the tree. Gently pat down the confetti and add more to fill in any holes.
Keep turning the trees and adding confetti to cover the entire cone. Then set aside to dry. Repeat with all your other cones to create a whole forest of confetti trees.
Once the Mod Podge is dry, your paper mache tree decorations are ready to display among fake iridescent snow and shiny ornaments.
You can easily use different sized cone trees like I did to create a whole display of DIY confetti cone Christmas trees for your mantle or holiday shelf.
