Oh Christmas Tree! Oh Christmas Tree! I am so excited to be working on Christmas craft projects. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year {hee-hee}. Well, it’s my absolute favorite time of the year. I love the cold weather and I enjoy making homemade tree ornaments, gifts, sweets and more! Today, I thought I’d share a super fun and simple ornament tutorial with all of you — and guess what? It’s kid friendly too! Cinnamon Stick Tree Ornaments.
My sister and I made these years ago and I thought they would be perfect to share with you! Ready?
Supplies needed to make your own cinnamon stick tree ornaments:
- 3″ Cinnamon Sticks
- 3/4″ Canadian Pine Garland
- Assorted Buttons
- Glue Gun
- Wire Cutters
- Twine or Hemp Cord
- Ruler
Let’s get started by prepping all the materials. Now is a good time to plug in your glue gun too — get her warmed up {wink}. Cut 7″ pieces of twine and 1″, 2″ and 2-1/2″ pieces of your Canadian pine garland, using your wire cutters, for the number of ornaments you wish to make. Once you have your pieces cut, you’re all set to start assembling!
Let’s start by gluing the pine to the cinnamon stick, placing the shortest piece (1″) at the top, then the 2″ piece, followed by the 2-1/2″ piece. You’ll now want to glue the twine to the back of your cinnamon stick as well. As you can see below, I knotted mine at the bottom before attaching.
Once you’ve completed that, it’s time decorate our tree ornaments. YAY! Glue on your buttons. I placed mine at the top and on each side of the branches.
However, the possibilities are endless — you can add sequins, pom poms, glitter, and more. Aren’t they as cute as can be? I think they’d make great little holiday favors too!
Happy crafting, sweet friends!

I work with special needs students. I love the Christmas tree cinn.stick and the clay ornaments. My students will be sooooo excited.
Thank you.,.
If you have designs for any other time throughout the year, please keep me in mind…
Keep up the great work!
What size buttons should be used on this tree ornament? Thank you linda
You can use different sizes! I’ve made these for over 10 years to sell at craft shows. Mine are made with four rows of pine on a 4″ stick and have small wooden starts at the top as well as little rag bows. Use your imagination, these are fun!
magnifique génial
Do you think craft glue, such as tacky glue would work? I would like to do these with my daughter and her friends.
Hi Jennifer! I think Fast Grab Tacky Glue would probably be the second best adhesive to hot glue: http://www.consumercrafts.com/store/details/catalog/basics-glue/ar3-2

And they be adorable as an addition to a smallish package! Maybe put the name glued on the bottom of the tree as a gift tag, pull name off and hang on tree!
Hi! Love these adorable tree ornaments however, I can’t seem to find 3/4″ garland anywhere. Can you tell me where to find such a thing? Thanks!!

I did this with my nephews this past week. They loved it. Instead of buttons we used little mini candy canes and tree lights. I think their favorite part was how good the cinnamon stick smelled haha.
Sounds perfect, Samantha! I love how much they enjoyed the cinnamon smell too. Have a lovely holiday.
