Crafting and personalizing Christmas decor is one of my favorite things to do in life. There’s so many buffalo plaid items out in the market right now, but I rarely see buffalo plaid and pom pom paired together. I thought this pairing would make for some great Christmas tree project ideas this year. This stuffed Christmas tree was so easy to make and you can definitely make more than one from a single bandana piece. Read on to see how I made it!
Supplies needed for buffalo plaid Christmas tree project ideas:
- Buffalo Plaid Bandana
- Hot Glue Gun
- Pillow Stuffing
- Pom Pom Trim
- Circle Base or Wood Slice
- Hem Tape
Step 1. Cut a section of your bandana into a rectangle and fold width-wise, and then fold it again width-wise. You should have four layers of fabric. Cut a diagonal piece from one end to the other like in the photo below.
Step 2. You should come out with two tall triangles. You can also create a pattern prior to cutting but I just eyeballed it based on how tall/wide I wanted my tree to be. Make sure to add seam allowances to your pattern as well!
Step 3. Make the edges neater by hemming the diagonal sides of the triangles (and the bottom too if you didn’t cut from the edge). I used hem tape to make it easier but you can also sew it down.
Step 4. Measure a length of pompom trim on the diagonal sides of the triangle. Cut two.
Step 5. Glue down the pom pom trim – again, you can also sew it down.
Step 6. Glue or sew the other triangle down, sandwiching the pom pom trim. You want just a tiny bit of the border to show through!
Step 7. Stuff your tree with some pillow stuffing, making sure not to overfill or you’ll risk having the seams come apart (unless you’ve sewn them together).
Step 8. Insert a dowel in the middle of the tree.
Step 9. Finally glue the dowel down onto a circular base (or a wood slice if you have one).
And you are done with these fun Christmas tree project ideas! Create one, two or even a forest of plaid (and plain) Christmas trees to adorn any corner of your house. These pompom trees look classic but fun and modern at the same time – I just love them! What colors are you decorating with for Christmas this year?
