Summer is such a fun time for kids with more free time and beautiful summer weather. Kids are so excited to be done with school and just want to play. But eventually the summer gets hot and kids are going to need a break inside. We do a summer chore chart that includes a chore, reading, and other optional things. But ultimately it never fails that the kids will start saying “I’m bored!” I usually ignore it but sometimes it’s nice to be able to pull out some summer craft ideas that will keep them busy for a while.
I prefer crafts for kids that are not dirty and require little guidance. However, that really can depend on the age of your kids. When you have littles under 5, sometimes you just have to sit there with them. But it’s sometimes fun to sit still for a bit and do a craft with my kids. I’ve put together some summer craft ideas we’ll be doing in our house this summer.
Supplies needed for Summer Craft Ideas for kids:
- Bendable Wax Sticks
- Dream Catcher Kit
- Alphabet and Number Bead Bracelet Kit
- Giant Bubbles
- Spaghetti Strand Bracelet
- Shrink Plastic
- Crayola Markers
- Coloring Books
My kids love bendable wax sticks. They will spend a long time just creating animals and stick figures and other objects. Even my 2 year old can enjoy playing with them. Plus it’s not messy.
Last summer we went to a party and they had beads and bracelet supplies and even my boys loved it! So I thought this would be a fun little craft to do with them this summer.
I had to include a little painting in my bank of summer craft ideas. My kids love painting on wood and why not if it’s already cut out and ready for you to paint. This dream catcher is a fun little project that can be customized how ever they want.
Now Origami is really for slightly older kids, but I feel my 6 and 8 year old can handle a beginner book with pre-cut out sheets.
My kids have already seen all these fun crafts and can’t wait to get started. What other summer craft ideas would you add to this list?
