Anyone else out there have a summer birthday?! Growing up having a summer birthday meant that I almost never had a party with my friends and I definitely didn’t get to celebrate in class with cupcakes. Now, I am not saying that these fruit slice gift boxes would have made me forget that, but I am sure I would have been giddy to open these DIY fruit slice gift boxes to see what presents were within. Since summer is coming up quickly, I painted a few of my favorite tropical fruits to celebrate the season. Plus, these cute box ideas can do double duty as storage bins for all your craft supplies or any other items you like to hoard!
Supplies to make fruit themed cute box ideas:
- Paper Mache Round Boxes
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Tissue paper, ribbon, bows, etc…
For these cute box ideas, begin by deciding which fruit you want to paint. Citrus is always a fun and easy choice, but for these tropical gift boxes I went with watermelon, dragon fruit, pineapple, and kiwi.
Paint the lids of the gift boxes to resemble the fruit slice of your choice. For the dragon fruit paint the lid white, then add a pink ring around the outer edge. Then use the bottom of the paint brush to dab on black paint “seeds”. Then paint the sides of the base of the box and the sides of the lid pink to match the skin of the dragon fruit.
Repeat with the other fruit in the same way. Paint the fruit slice on the top of the lid and the sides to match what the exterior of the fruit would look like. Brown for the kiwi and pineapple and green variegated stripes for the watermelon.
Let the paint dry. To finish these cute box ideas, fill with trinkets or items to store, or fill them with tissue or crinkle cut paper and your gift. Then add a coordinating ribbon bow.
Now how adorable would a whole bunch of these cute box ideas be for summer decor?! It would be like a fruit salad on your shelf! Ha!
