Father’s Day is seriously the hardest holiday to shop for! I’ve bought my husband so many ties, shaving products, and bar accessories that I decided to go with something a little different this year. Something that he can both enjoy looking at and find a practical use for. This Father’s Day DIY memo holder is great to keep track of quick messages, pictures, or important receipts and will look awesome hanging on his office wall. Let’s get started making one!
- Unfinished Wood Charger Plates
- Black Chalkboard Paint
- Erasable Chalk Marker
- Smooth Decorative River Rocks
- Amazing Goop Contact Adhesive and Sealant
- Small Clip or Cloths Pin
- Large Sawtooth Hangers
Use a paintbrush to apply chalkboard paint to the wood plate. You may need to add a few coats until you’re happy with the coverage. Allow to dry completely before moving onto next step.
Before sticking them permanently in place, lay out your stones on the plate edge to make sure they fit nicely. Depending on the size of stones that you get, this may take a bit of time. Be patient!
Once you’re happy with the look, apply an ample amount of glue to the back of the rocks one at a time. I originally used a Tacky Glue but found that it wasn’t going to be strong enough and had to switch to a silicon-based glue. Allow a couple hours for the glue to harden a bit before moving onto the next step. Make sure to leave a space for the clip!
With the glue somewhat hardened, you can begin to add the words “Dad, You Rock!” to the center of the plate. I went with some basic handlettering but you could also cut vinyl for this area or even have your child write the words.
Use a chalk pen or white paint pen to write over the written words.
Use the silicon glue or a glue gun to adhere the clip in place.
The final step is to add the sawtooth hanger to the back.
Wouldn’t this Father’s Day DIY memo holder be perfect with a set of his favorite pictures printed out? Or with a sweet note written by your child that he can keep safe hanging on this memo holder? There are so many ways to make this perfect for that special guy in your life!
