If your dad or husband is anything like mine, then simple is always best when it comes to the gift department. And one thing that I know they can always use is a new wallet. This year I decided to make an embossed leather wallet DIY for Father’s Day. Even I was surprised at how easy it was to make and I can’t wait to gift it to my dad in just a few weeks.
- Binder Clips
- Fabric Glue
- Craft Leather
- Embossing Folder
- Cricut Cuttlebug or Similar
- Gold Metallic Paint
Begin by measuring your leather and cutting it to appx. 4.5″ by 9″. Then fit one half of the leather into the embossing folder. Insert the folder between the foam embossing sheet of the Cuttlebug and the top acrylic sheet on top of the white acrylic base and roll through the embosser 4-5 times to really press in the pattern of the embossing folder.
Once your piece of leather is embossed on one side, flip the embossing folder to the other side of the leather and emboss again. Then lay your leather piece out wrong side up and add a line of glue on each side of the leather.
Fold in half and secure with binder clips until the glue dries.
Once dry, the wallet is ready to use as is, or you can add a simple gold stripe to one side by painting it with acrylic craft paint.
The subtle pattern the embossing folder gives the leather paired with the single gold stripe makes this wallet far from ordinary and perfect for any father. But not only is it fashionable and functional, it takes only about 20-30 minutes to make. That means that you can make a one for every man in your life!
