If you’re planning a big party and need some 4th of July party ideas, you’re definitely going to want to whip up some of these great firecracker favors! They’re inexpensive to make and small enough that you won’t break the bank trying to fill them. I used washi tape to decorate mine in a jiffy, but any medium would work (paint, decoupage, stickers, markers, etc). Depending on their age, you can even let your kids help out with these 4th of July party ideas!
Supplies needed to make these 4th of July party ideas- firecracker favors:
- Small Paper Mache Tubes (they come six to a box)
- Washi Tape (I used red & blue primary, red & white polka dot, and white with blue stripes)
- Scrapbook Paper
- 1/4″ Double Sided Hercules Tape
- EK Tools™ Starry Night Decorative Edge Punch
- Hot Glue Gun and Sticks
- Wooden Dowel Rods – 1/4″ x 12″
Step 1. Decorate the tube with your washi tape and trim off excess. You can go with any color and pattern combination. Have fun!
Step 2. Cut out a 3″ circle from coordinating scrapbook paper. Make a slit to the middle to fold into cone shape. Secure with a piece of Hercules tape (one of my favorite craft supplies EVER, btw!).
Step 3. Decorate the top! I cut out washi stars by sticking the tape to wax paper and then running it through the star punch. Just peel off the wax paper and stick the stars in place. Easy!
Step 4. Apply a liberal amount of glue to the top of the small paper mache tube. Hold in place while the glue hardens. Watch your fingers, the glue can get pretty hot!
Step 5. Cut a dowel rod in half and stick in place with some more hot glue. Allow to harden horizontally before holding by the stick.
Step 6. Done! All you need to do is fill with candy, small toys, or confetti and pass them out to your guests. I filled mine with cinnamon flavored candies I found at the dollar store.
I seriously had so much fun making these 4th of July party ideas! Thinking of different ways to apply the washi tape was a blast. Since they’re so small, none of them took up too much time to make. I could totally see kids loving this 4th of July party ideas project!
Hope you have fun making your own 4th of July favors. These firecrackers are sure to add a bit of sparkle to your party!

You are so clever, what outstanding idea how to make them. Inexpensive. How about toilet paper tubes or paper towel tubes? Those I’d have on hand. Never throw them away in case a project pops up to use them for, just never know. When you live few miles from stores to get craft supplies it pays to think ahead. If I get in mood to do something right then want to start right away. Great project, give yourself a star or two. Happy weekend
I just love these and I included them in my 4th of July Party Idea Roundup!http://thatmommykindoflife.com/?p=49
This could also be made using toilet paper rolls! Spend even less money.
Construction paper strips would work great.
