Celebrate spring in style with this adorable easy spring decorations DIY sign. We love adding in soft pastels to our home decor at this time of year and this sign makes a fun addition! Making your own home decor accents has never been easier using these pallet style signs available in a variety of sizes and today I’m sharing a method for creating your own art using a craft cutting machine.
- 20 x 10.5″ Pallet Wood Sign
- Chalk Paint in Everlasting and Refreshing Green
- Paint Brush
- Transfer Paper
- Silhouette Cameo
- Silhouette Hook Tool & Scraper
- Artificial Hydrangeas
- Hot Glue
Step 1. Paint your pallet wood base with a light coast of chalk paint in everlasting. I kept things light and bright with the white paint but feel free to customize your colors. Let it dry completely.
Step 2. While the paint is drying, create your stencil. This can be done a variety of ways, but I created mine using standard vinyl and my Silhouette Cameo. I uploaded the design in the silhouette software and cut it out on a 12×12 cutting mat. (This design was premade and can be purchased in the silhouette store.)
Note* If you don’t have a vinyl machine, you can follow this print and trace method found here in this autumn diy pallet sign tutorial. After the design is cut, remove the excess vinyl using the hook tool.
Step 3. After the design is cut using vinyl, apply it directly to the painted pallet. This can be done directly, but I prefer to use transfer paper.
By placing the design on the right side of the sign, the area on the left will be open to apply flowers or other desired embellishments.
Step 4. Using a sponge brush, use a blotting method to apply the chalk paint to the design. Make sure to only use a light coat of paint to avoid bleeding under the vinyl. Repeat this step if necessary to achieve the color depth desired.
Step 5. Carefully remove the vinyl.
Step 6. Glue on flowers or other desired elements to finish off your spring decorations DIY.
