I always love thinking of just the right thing to give my mom for Mother’s Day. She is the best of the best and she deserves something new and fun and thoughtful every year! Handmade goods are always a hit, and she is definitely in need of some pampering, so I came up with this idea for push-up homemade lotion bars. I had never made anything like this before, and now I am obsessed. They are soooooooo easy to make, smell divine, are super convenient, and are the greatest gift idea for mom! Here’s how I did it.
Supplies needed to make your own homemade lotion bars:
- 8 oz. Beeswax Pellets
- 8 oz. Coconut Oil
- 4 0z. Shea Butter
- Fragrance or Essential Oils (I used this blend)
- Cardboard Tubes
- Labels (created from Printable Vinyl)
Step 1: In a double boiler (or if you don’t have a double boiler, use a metal bowl over a pot of simmering water), combine the beeswax and coconut oil. On low heat, melt (stirring often) until the ingredients are completely liquefied.
Step 2: Add the shea butter to the mixture and melt (stirring often) until liquefied. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for 5 minutes.
Step 3: While the mixture cools, apply the vinyl labels to the tubes.
Step 4: After the mixture has cooled, add fragrance or essential oil to the mixture until the scent is to your preference.
Step 5: Pour the mixture into the tubes. Let cool for 4-5 hours so they are completely hardened.
One batch made six 2.5 oz tubes, and they only take about 15 minutes to make. Also, the Yuzu + Bergamot scent is lovely, but you can customize them to any scent.
Just think of the possibilities. I can’t recommend these enough. Make them! Make them! Make them!
Moms deserve the best, and this project is THE BEST. I popped one of the extras in my purse, and it is so nice to pull out when my hands are feeling dry. It’s like a big chapstick for your skin! So much fun, and the perfect gift. Happy making!

Hey there
What program did you use to make the labels? They look super cute!
Thanks so much Kayley! I made them in Photoshop, but you could totally make something similar in another program!
