Do you all love the look of latch hook as much as me? While I love all the fluffy texture, I don’t have the patience to make a latch hook piece with each individual strand of yarn. That’s why came up with the idea of using yarn tassels to hot glue to a template to create the look of latch hook with so much less time investment. This DIY latch hook Easter egg decoration uses a paper mache egg as the template and looks just like a giant egg pom pom! DIY Easter craft ideas don’t get much cuter than this!
DIY Easter Craft Ideas Project Supplies:
- Yarn (in various colors of your choice – the thicker the better)
- Roving (optional)
- Paper Mache Easter Egg
- Hot Glue
- Scissors
Begin by making a bunch of tassels. A quick way to make them is to wrap the yarn around your arm and palm like you are wrapping up an extension cord. Then remove from your arm and tie 5″ pieces of yarn around the large yarn loop about 3″ apart.
Next, cut in between the ties to create several tassels all at once.
To make the DIY latch hook Easter egg, hot glue the tied part of the tassel down onto the paper mache egg surface.
Keep gluing more tassels onto the egg until it is completely covered. Once covered, trim off the yarn until it is short and sticks outward to look like a real latch hook.
Depending on where you display your Easter egg, you can repeat the process on the sides and back as well so that no paper mache is showing. Or if you plan to hang it on the wall with adhesive strips, leave the back just paper mache so that it can stick to the strips and hang.
