Whether you are looking to create your Christmas cards by hand this year or simply want to keep a few holiday themed cards around for thank you notes, cards are so fun and simple to make! So I gathered a few simple supplies and am excited to share these two simple DIY Christmas card ideas with you.
I created embossed chalkboard Christmas cards and a button wreath Christmas card so you can choose which is easiest and best for you to make. Either way, these DIY Christmas card ideas are both so much fun!
Supplies needed to make your own embossed chalkboard DIY Christmas card:
- Core’dinations 4×6 Chalkboard Paper.
- White A2 Card and Envelope Set.
- Embossing Folders (I used Reindeer and Ornaments).
- Embossing Machine (I used the Sizzix).
- Tape Runner.
- Sand It Gadget.
- Scissors or Paper Trimmer.
First you will trim your Chalk Core paper a bit so that it will fit on top of your card base. Then set up your embossing machine with the multipurpose platform and your cutting pads. Place the paper inside the embossing folder and run it through your machine to emboss your shape onto your chalk core! I used my ornament embossing folder on red Chalk Core paper and my reindeer embossing folder on white Chalk Core.
Then using the Sand It gadget, gently sand over the embossed areas. You can sand a little or a lot. I sanded a little bit on my ornaments but I sanded much more on my reindeer for a more weathered look. How you sand is up to you!
Then use a tape runner to adhere your embossed design onto your card base.
With just a few simple steps, you have really pretty and fun holiday cards, perfect to give this season for any reason!
If you don’t have an embossing machine, you can still create really fun and simple cards with this button wreath DIY Christmas card idea!
Supplies needed to make your own button wreath DIY Chirstmas card:
First I placed my buttons into a large circle shape onto my card to get the right size and shape. I chose to use red buttons for this project, but green would work great too! Then I used my hot glue gun to adhere the buttons in place.
Next I cut two “tails” for my bow out of ribbon and hot glued them down. Then I created a bow and adhered that in place. There are many ways to create a bow, but I chose to create a loop out of ribbon, and then add another loop of ribbon in the middle to create a perfect bow without a lot of work or stress.
These DIY Christmas card ideas are so simple to make you can even let your kids help! Just be sure to use a low-temp hot glue gun so they don’t get burned!
These button wreath Christmas cards don’t take a lot of time or effort to make and in an afternoon you could have all of your holiday cards done for the season!
I hope you enjoyed these DIY Christmas card ideas! Do you prefer to make or buy your holiday cards?
