Are you looking for an inexpensive way to spruce up your holiday decor? Or how about an easy idea for a holiday craft night? Well then try this ruffled Christmas tree craft, they’re festive and can be made with any color scheme in mind.
Supplies needed to make these ruffled Christmas tree crafts:
- Small and Medium Styrofoam Cones
- Wood Candle Holder
- Hot Glue Gun & Gluesticks
- Trim and/or Ribbon
- Sewing Machine
- Wood Star
- Glue
- Glitter
For the larger tree, I used pre-made ruffled trim found at my local fabric store. You can easily ruffle your own fabric using a sewing machine or by stitching it by hand then pulling on the thread to gather the fabric. I had both the trim and ribbon sitting in my craft supply stash so I took this opportunity to finally put it to use.
Starting with the big tree, I glued the trim spiraling upward. You don’t have to use glue the entire time just enough to hold the trim in place. For the small ribbon tree, I ruffled the ribbon using my sewing machine then cut six pieces to fit around the cone. I layered each one slightly on top of each other. This way I ended up with a “seam” in the back, unlike with the trim, it was just one large spiral with a starting and ending point. Does that make sense? If you have any questions please let me know!
Then, I glued the candle holders under the trees to give them some height. I decided to leave them unfinished because I like the natural look but you could easily paint them to fit your preference.
For the big tree I used a large wood star from my craft supply then a small star from this pack. I added silver glitter to give them a little shine. You can never go wrong with glitter especially during the holidays!
I’m so happy with the way they turned out. I want to make a whole table display of them now!
