Growing up, my mother would create party decor for every holiday. To this day, she still hosts our holiday meals with beautiful themed decor. Now that I have my own children, I like to recreate the same memories with them. Whether it’s a full party spread or a few fun crafts, holidays are always a little creative around here. We have big plans for a big family backyard party on the 4th of July and I’m getting an early start on the decor by working on the little details over the next few weeks. These patriotic food picks are so fun and easy to make – I just had to share! Supplies needed to make your own patriotic food picks:
- Tinsel Pom Poms
- Toothpicks
- Hot Glue
- Washi Tape (I used Red & White Polka Dot Tape)
- Star Sequins
This tutorial is as easy as can be. There’s not many steps, which makes them easy to whip up before a party!
Step one: Add a small dot of hot glue to the tip of a toothpick and press the toothpick into the tinsel pom pom. If you need a bigger food pick, lollipop sticks work great.
Step two: Wrap washi tape around the toothpick and snip off a triangle from the end to make a mini pennant flag.
Step three: Finish it off with a sequin star – add a dab of hot glue to the back of the star and place it on the washi tape flag.
See? Very easy to make!
I hosted a coffee party over the weekend and had mini donuts left over so I used those as a food prop. For our 4th of July party, I plan to add the picks to mini blueberry cheesecakes. I think it will be a fun way to display them on our table.
Do you enjoy decorating for the the 4th of July?

What a fun idea! So cute and festive! Pinning!
Crystal these cute food picks are just perfect for July 4th! I love the red/white/blue in these cute tiny little picks. I think it is awesome that you add a personal touch to your holidays and festivities with some crafty projects. Do you do the crafts alone or does your significant other/kids help you? Do you and your mother ever get together to create home décor together?

Hi Jo! My mother and I still love crafting together! I usually bring a bag of craft supplies to family gatherings for the kids and adults to craft together. We love this family tradition and hope it continues for a long time. Thanks for the sweet comment! 🙂
