I love the rustic feel of Thanksgiving decor and so I was excited to make these burlap utensil holders to match my decor. They come together so fast and easy – great to whip up as a hostess gift or a serving accessory to add to your collection. Read on for this easy Thanksgiving table utensil holder idea!
Supplies needed to make easy Thanksgiving table utensil holders:
Step 1. First, measure and cut the size that you would like for your pocket. Mine were roughly 4″ across by 12″ tall. To cut a straight line easier, fold your burlap at your width’s mark and isolate a string from the weave and carefully pull it out like in the photo below. It should give you a gap ‘guideline’ to follow with cutting your utensil pocket to size.
Step 2. Fold the piece of burlap to create a pocket with an opening on one of the shorter sides.
Step 3. Use hot glue to secure the pocket or you can sew it down for extra security. Glue both sides so you are only left with the top opening.
Step 4. Carefully measure out the length of pom pom trim you would like to use and cut to size. I preferred having a pom pom on the ends of each trim so I measured it on each side prior to cutting.
Step 5. Attach the trim on both sides of your pocket using fabric hot glue and you are done! You may want to add more trim onto the backside of the utensil holder but I did not do so.
This fun and modern burlap utensil pouch gives just a bit of oomph to my easy Thanksgiving table plans this year. This project is definitely customizable by using different pom pom trim colors and even adding heat transfer to the burlap itself! I just love decorating for this holiday season. What is your favorite thing about the holidays?
