I would not ever claim to have any cake-decorating prowess. I have friends who have amazing skills. They create tiny people from fondant, and use multiple tips to decorate amazing works of art. Before this spiced carrot muffins post, I slapped icing onto cupcakes with a butter knife. And not very well!
I got my hands on the Wilton Dessert Decorator Plus, and suddenly, my baking looked just that much fancier.
The little pumpkins help in that department too, don’t they?
What you’ll need to make your own spiced carrot muffins:
- Wilton Dessert Decorator Plus
- Damask Cupcake Liners
- Mini Pumpkins (optional)
- Batch of Spiced Carrot Muffins
- Batch of Cream Cheese Icing
The icing was easily put – or “glopped,” I’d say – into the chamber. I chose the star tip from the assortment that came with the tool, and it screwed onto the threads at the front of the decorator.
These are my first and second attempts with the decorator. Can you believe it?
You can also see how I double-layered the cupcake liners. I like vibrancy in all things!
These little pumpkins added that autumn feeling I wanted for the cupcakes. I love the spicy flavour of these muffins, and the cream cheese icing complemented it beautifully. It’s quintessential “autumn.”
I washed the mini pumpkins and made sure that they didn’t transfer colour. I will forwarn – they are not labelled as food safe – but because I’m not heating them, nor did they seem to transfer dye in my hands, I felt that they were okay as a little decoration.
See how fancy I can be, after only ten minutes of playing with the decorator? It instantly upgraded my skills, and turned my muffins into something much more.
Would you dare to eat these for breakfast? They are carrot muffins, after all….
