Halloween projects are totally some of my favorite crafts ever and this paper mache Halloween book craft doesn’t disappoint! The best part about this project is just how easy it is to customize these books. Of course, you can make them exactly like the ones I made below but part of the fun is finding other ways to decorate the books!
Supplies needed to make this Halloween book craft:
- Paper Mache Books (I used the large and medium)
- Metallic Black Spray Paint
- Gemstone Spider Sticker
- Mini Ivory Bones
- Champagne Shimmer Paint
- Hot Glue Gun & Sticks
- Any other small objects you want to stick on the books!
First things first, you’re going to have to give the paper mache books a couple coats of the metallic black or gray spray paint. Don’t worry if the coverage isn’t perfect. The additional layers of decorations and paint will cover it!
Once the books are completely dry, you can begin embellishing them. For the spider book, all I had to do was apply the sticker to the center. I added some corner detail with the glue gun but that’s totally optional.
The bone book was a bit more time consuming, only because I had to glue each of the bones in place around the book edge. I didn’t mind, though. Love how it turned out!
Once the hot glue has completely hardened, apply another coat of spray paint to the embellished surfaces. Allow paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
I kind of liked how the books looked with just the spray paint and considered leaving them like that. Once I started adding the champagne pearl paint, though, I loved the antique look of this book craft even more! The secret to the paint application is to go light with the amount of paint on your brush. Apply the paint to a small section and than quick wipe the majority of it away with a rag. Continue this process over the embellishments, edges, and spine.
How crazy fun is this paper mache Halloween book craft! I would love to have an entire bookshelf full of these fun creations!
I hope you enjoy making these as much as I did! Can’t wait to see how you customize them!
