After years of doing DIY projects, it’s still funny to me how much just painting something can manipulate the way it looks so much. Take this wood spider web cutout for instance. With just paint you could transform it into a gruesome, creepy Halloween scene with the use of black paint and red blood splatters. Or you can do as I did and use colorful paint to create a candy-colored rainbow web perfect for a pretty scary scene. I am all about the non traditional colors when it comes to holidays, so this rainbow DIY spider web wreath is just perfect for my colorful take on Halloween. I can’t wait to add a few pumpkins in a rainbow of colors to my front door now that the colorful wreath has been made!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY spider web wreath:
- Wood Spider Web
- Acrylic Craft Paint in shades of pink, orange, and blue
- Paint Brush
- Washi Tape
- Spider
Begin by taping off your spider web segments using the washi tape. Go from the middle of one spoke to the middle point of the web. Then add your first color of acrylic craft paint. Let dry fully then remove the washi tape. Re-position the tape over the next spider web segment and paint the second color. Let the paint dry and repeat with all the remaining colors in rainbow pattern.
For the finishing touch, add a fake plastic spider using a dab of E6000 glue on the wreath. Then hang using a wreath hanger and await the delight and awe from your neighbors as they see the colorful Halloween rainbow.
Isn’t it just amazing what a little paint and thinking outside the traditional holiday color box can get you? I hope you try to make your own rainbow DIY spider web wreath this fall!
