With each new holiday that approaches, I like to come up with some kind of hands-on activity that my kiddos can help me create, should they choose to. We’ve painted frames, crafted ornaments, and designed valentines for past holidays so they’ve felt some ownership in how our home is decorated for any particular season. With Halloween quickly approaching, I decided that it was high time to get our creative bones working again. In less than an hour, we worked together to create a felt and foam DIY jack o lantern banner that my sweet babies are so excited to show off.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY jack o lantern banner:
- Foamies Pumpkin Bases
- Black Sticky Back Adhesive Felt Sheet
- Halloween Glitter Glue Pens
- Sharpie Marker
- Scissors
- Black and White Baker’s Twine
Step One. Flip the sheet of sticky back adhesive felt over and use the Sharpie to draw the jack o lantern pieces for each pumpkin. Make them as simple or as elaborate as you’d like. Heads up – the felt can be pretty thick, so I wouldn’t recommend intricate cuts as they won’t turn out well.
Step Two. Use the scissors to cut out the DIY jack o lantern pieces from the felt.
Step Three. Carefully peel the paper backing from the cut pieces of felt.
Step Four. Press each piece of felt firmly on to a foam pumpkin piece.
Step Five. Use the Halloween glitter pens to add a little extra pizzazz to each DIY jack o lantern. Let the glitter glue dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step Six. Create the banner by tying each pumpkin with the baker’s twine, creating one single long line of pumpkins.
With the exception of using the scissors, the rest of this project is perfect for kiddos of just about any age to complete, with adult supervision, of course.
