Looking for a fun and colorful way to decorate for Halloween this year? Ditch the black and scary decor and opt for something a little more bright! These easy colorful DIY bat cones are the perfect craft for kids and adults alike. All you need is paint, paper mache cones, and cardstock to get crafting. How adorable would an entire bat family be lined up on your mantel this holiday?!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY bat cones:
Begin by painting the paper cones with the acrylic craft paint. I found that each cone needed two coats of paint. So give them all a coat of paint, let that dry, and then paint on the second coat.
While the second coat dries, begin to cut out the bat wings. To get the perfect set of wings, fold your 12″ cardstock in half, then cut 2″ semi circles out of the bottom of the cardstock starting at the fold and working your way to the open end. Once you get to the end of the cardstock, cut the tip of the bat wing and then cut an arch for the top of the wing as you go back towards the center. Once you have cut out the wing, unfold the paper to reveal your set of wings.
Now that the paint is dry, glue your bat wings to the back of the cone and glue on two googly eyes.
Repeat several times to create a whole family of colorful bats! These colorful DIY bat cones turned out so cute and fun, I just love them!
A helpful hint when creating your own, try to use an assortment of cone sizes for all different bat heights. But if you can only get your hands on one size, use a utility knife to cut them down to different sizes!
