There is a family in our neighborhood that attaches a “crashing witch” to a light post the week of Halloween. Every year it makes me do a double take, and makes the kids laugh. I thought it would be fun to re-create a crashing witch DIY in a home decor piece that I can pull out each year.
I kinda love how it turned out! It was super simple as well, which makes it even cuter to me!
Supplies needed to make your own witch DIY frame:
- 4×6 Wooden Picture Frame in Black
- Halloween Witch Legs
- Mini Witch Hat
- 3 inch Pine Broom
- 6 inch Black Tulle Netting
- Purple Polka Dot Cardstock
- Smooth Black Cardstock
Begin by removing the backing and glass from your photo frame.
Discard the glass, or save it for another project.
Trim your purple patterned paper and black cardstock to 4×6″ pieces.
Turn your purple paper over, and using a craft knife, cut an “X” in the center of the paper.
Turn the paper back over, and using the cut area as a starting point, peel the paper up to make a hole in the center of the paper.
Place the torn paper back into the frame, with black cardstock as the backing.
Clip the wire stems from the witch legs.
Using hot glue, adhere the trimmed legs to the center of the cardstock hole.
Using hot glue, adhere pieces of gathered black tulle around the witch legs.
Take care not to burn your fingers!
Each time I work with hot glue, I use finger protectors.

(The pink finger protector you see above.) It is well worth the investment.
Adhere the broom to the bottom of the hole…
…and the witch hat to the top of the hole.
A fun little witch DIY decor piece to add to your Halloween display.
