I’ll be honest, I’m not that much of a pie person, but something about fall makes me want to eat all the pie. This year instead of indulging in the sweet treats every chance I get, I am going to try to curb my sweet tooth by lighting a few of these apple pie tea light DIY candles. Using a bit of tan polymer clay, I created the perfect pie shell to fill with apple pie and pumpkin spice scented candle wax. Now I get all the smells of fall without all the sugar!
- Sculpey Doll Making Clay in Beige
- Small Tart Pans
- Candle Making Kit
- Baked Apple Pie Frangrance Oil
- Pumpkin Spice Fragrance Oil
Begin by rolling out your clay like pie dough and filing your mini tart pans with the clay. Be sure to push down the clay into all the ridges and then use your finger to press the extra clay off the side and create an even top crust.
If you want a lattice topped pie, cut strips of clay and weave into a lattice pattern while making sure to leave a 1/2″ gap in the center for the wick and flame to protrude.
Once you have made all your pie shells and lattice tops, bake them in a 275F oven for 15 minutes. Then let them cool.
Once cool, place your tea light candle wicks that come with the candle making kit into the center of the pie shell.
Melt your wax chips in the metal pitcher over a pan of boiling water. At this time you can add in wax color blocks to change the color of your pie “filling”. Once the wax has melted, add in a few drops of your fragrance oil according to your oils’ package directions, then pour the melted wax into the “pie shells.” Let the wax cool, then add on your lattice top if desired. Once your wax is hard, your apple pie tea light DIY candles are ready to use!
