I love snow globes! Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated with them. Today’s project made me really happy! This DIY snow globe craft is a great project for kids, since you can customize the globes however you like, and since they are made with inexpensive plastic wine glasses, they won’t break the bank.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY snow globe craft:
- 5 oz. Clear Plastic Wine Glasses
- Artificial Snow
- Wooden Doll Pin Head
- Seasonal Miniatures
- Hot Glue Gun/Glue Sticks
- Silver Paint
- Mega Scalloped Edge Craft Punch
- Chipboard Piece (thin cardboard, like a cereal box)
The first thing you will want to do is cut scalloped edge circles that are sized to fit underneath the wine glass, with a little edge still showing. I used a scrap piece of chipboard. The packaging from the wine glasses would be a good pick.
Punch a base for each DIY snow globe you want to create.
Then, paint the bases silver as well as the wooden top pieces.
Allow both the top pieces and the base pieces to dry.
Then begin arranging your DIY snow globe crafts! Here are links to the seasonal miniatures that I chose:
Using a hot glue gun, adhere your items to the painted scalloped circle base.
Make sure your items will fit underneath the wine glass.
Then, flip your wine glass upside down and add some artificial snow to the glass. Cheers!
I would suggest only adding a 1/2 inch to 1 inch of the artificial snow. You still want to be able to see your miniatures! You could also sprinkle in some glitter if you like!
Then, add a small line of hot glue around the edge of the wine glass. Don’t worry if it is a little sloppy. The artificial snow will cover up most hot glue globs.
This next step is IMPORTANT. Flip your DIY snow globe base upside down, and place it into the wine glass. DO NOT attempt to flip the wine glass over your base. Disaster will ensue! 🙂
Set your DIY snow globe right side up, while the glue is still tacky, and make sure it is straight on the base. Allow it to dry.
Squeeze some hot glue into the cup of the wooden piece. Adhere it to the top of the wine glass, where the stem ends.
Allow to dry. That’s it! You can shake the artificial snow around- to make it go where you would like. It may have a little bit of static cling at first- that will go away in a day or two.
Enjoy your custom DIY snow globe crafts!

Shaunte is a 30-something, chocolate-loving, SAHM from Utah. She has been scrapbooking since 1997, the dreaded era of photos cropped with deco scissors. Since then, her work has evolved into a clean, linear, photo-focused style. Her favorite subjects to scrap are her husband and five kids (never a lack for subject material there).
I have checked and have had a hard time finding the mega punch you suggested. What size in diameter are you using for this project? 35mm? 45mm? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!
I love this. What a great idea, thanks for sharing.
These are so cute and just darn right adorable.
I don’t have any plastic wine glasses but do have some martini glasses so may go ahead and use those.
These would be cute fixed up/ decorated on a silver platter or cake stand and used as a table center piece.
