Christmas is going to be here before I know it so I am getting a head start on crafting and decorating this year! So today I want to share a really fun and simple craft that looks AMAZING! And the best part is that it lights up! I love marquee letters and this JOY marquee is super cute and I knew it would be perfect to use for my project today! Today I am going to share my rustic DIY JOY Christmas decor idea and how-to with you.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY JOY Christmas decor:
- Light-Up Marquee Letters
- Americana Chalky Finish Paint (I used Relic)
- Foam Paint Brush
- Sandpaper, 120 Grit
After I removed the marquee letters from the box I decided to paint the sides of the letters with chalky finish paint. What is great about chalky finish paint is that it sticks to nearly any surface with very little or no prep work. Because these letters are metal this paint will stick to it without a problem.
I simply painted one coat of paint on all the sides of the letters and let it dry completely. Because I wanted this to look a little bit rustic and worn there was no reason to paint more than one coat. One coat was perfect.
After the paint was completely dry I used my sandpaper to rough it up a bit. You can take as much paint as you want off.
And that’s all there is to it! It was such a simple craft but it was a great way to transform these all-white DIY JOY marquee letters into something unique, rustic and beautiful!
Here is a close up. I just love how rustic and worn the DIY JOY letters look. And it was such a simple project that anyone can do it. But what a fun way to light up your home this holiday season.
