I am always drawn to door hangers that are different from the normal wreath. Today’s project was a really quick- to-assemble, cheerful DIY fall door decoration planter box. I made mine for fall, but the basic instructions could be altered for any season.
Supplies needed to make your own DIY fall door decoration:
- Chicken Wire Window Frame
- Unfinished Wood Planter Box
- Wood Craft Glue
- Varathane® One Step Stain and Polyurethane
- FALL Word Art Base
- Glorious Gold Metallic Enamel Paint
- Various Fall Floral Picks
Remove all packaging and stickers from the wooden frame and planter box. Following the product directions, stain both wooden pieces. I like using this Varathane spray stain. No mess, and it allows me to get into tight areas- like this wooden frame, underneath the chicken wire.
To finish my DIY fall door decoration box, I added some floral foam to the planter box- and arranged some fall floral picks. My favorite addition was this little guy that I adhered to the “FALL” word art:

Arrange your floral picks however you like. Add some jute to the fasteners on the back of the wooden window frame, and hang your new fall creation with pride on the front door!
Or on a wall. Or prop it on your mantle.
You get the idea.
