DIY Chalkboard Pumpkin Decorations

Can you feel it? Fall is almost here! With the return of Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I’m now ready for autumn crafts and Halloween decor. This is my absolute favorite time of the year and I’m excited to start adorning my home with all things pumpkin. Today, I’m going to share a quick Halloween pumpkin idea with you. These chalkboard paper mache pumpkin decorations are a great way to dress up your front porch or a Halloween mantle!

Chalkboard-pumpkin-decorations-Crafts-Unleashed-2Let’s get started on these adorable chalkboard pumpkin decorations! First things first – supplies.

Supplies needed to make your own chalkboard pumpkin decorations:

  • Paper Mache Pumpkins
  • Chalkboard Spray Paint (to purchase, contact our the ConsumerCrafts customer service dept. at or 1-888-552-7238 and ask for item # SW00807)
  • Chevron Ribbon
  • Chalk

PumpkinsLightly spray pumpkins with 2-3 coats of chalkboard spray paint, making sure each coat dries before applying the next. They key to avoiding drips when spray painting, is to apply light coats and lots of patience. Sometimes I try to spray as much as possible to cover a bigger surface, but it never ends well. I allowed my final coat to dry overnight before working with them.

Pumpkins 2Once the spray paint is completely dry, season your surface by rubbing chalk all over your new DIY pumpkin decorations. Wipe the chalk off and you’re ready to “decorate” them with spooky sayings or decorative designs.

Pumpkins 3I added this cute black and white chevron ribbon to embellish them a little and added chalk in between the lines of the pumpkins. I think it adds a nice touch and matches my black and white Halloween decor perfectly!

Love how your chalkboard painted pumpkins look. Can do several ideas on those, and the chevron ribbon.
After looking at the photos a few times I realized your pumpkins are paper mache? Am I wrong? Hopefully being paper mache they are less expensive than the ones like Michaels sells. Those are pretty cost prohibitive for me even with a sale or coupon. If I want to be able to make a few I need to be able to find affordable pumpkins, not always easy where I live.
Did find smaller pumpkins at $tree but they were only in one size. They are the carvable ones, even have line around middle to cut it open,
I had plans to get out some of my fall decos today but it’s been raining all day, nothing but a mud bog down where our shed is. Drat!!! Happy week
