It’s time for the best holiday for crafting! I know all the holidays are fodder for craft fever but Halloween happens to be my favorite. When else do we get to make things with spiders, black cats, witches, pumpkins, ghosts and creepy-crawlies? Don’t worry, we’ll get pink hearts back in February. But, for now, black and orange, woo hoo! In the scheme of Halloween crafts, this is very tame. I wanted to make something you could leave on your neighbors’ doorknobs and not creep them out if they are scared at the very sight of a fake spider. Let’s make these cute “You’ve Been BOOed” door-hanging treat holders!
Supplies needed to make your own You’ve Been BOOed treat holders:
- Halloween-ish Paper (my favorite oranges, black)
- Black Ribbon
- Black Doily tape
- Black Adhesive Pearls
- Black Glitter Gems
- Crop-a-Dile or Hole Punch
- Wire
- Paper Mache or Plastic Cones
- Scissors
- Adhesive Tape Runner
- Stapler

Step 1. Apply tape runner to the corner of a piece of paper and beginning rolling the cone in the paper. Add adhesive tape as you go.
Step 2. Once the cone is covered, trim off the excess paper. Staple the edges together.
Step 3. Punch a hole on either side of the cone at the top.
Step 4. Cut a piece of wire big enough to fit over a doorknob, loop through the holes and push the ends in so they aren’t sticking out (don’t want to get cut!). You might even cover the wire ends with washi tape.
Step 5. Decorate the cone with adhesive pearls, rhinestones and washi tape. I cut washi tape into triangles to get a confetti look.
Step 6. Add ribbon and embellishments. I wrapped black ribbon around the top of the cone a couple of times (wrapping around the wires as I passed them) and knotted it at one side. I took a little wooden embellishment and added washi tape, punched a hole and tied it on the cone with ribbon. I also added a piece of black adhesive ribbon at the bottom of the cone.
I made another treat holder using a plastic cone meant to make a doll’s body. This isn’t quite as sturdy as paper mache but works just as well.
Once the cones were decorated, I printed out “You’ve Been BOOed” tags to tie on with ribbon.
Usually, when you leave someone a “You’ve Been BOOed” treat, you leave a little poem with instructions for them to pass the idea along by giving treats to others. I don’t like to put that pressure on my neighbors, so I just stuck with “You’ve Been BOOed!”
There are lots of cute “You’ve Been BOOed” poems on Pinterest, if you want to use them as inspiration.
I tried not to eat too many treats when I made these gifts but it was really hard. So, either you have more willpower than I do, or you buy extra treats upfront. Enjoy!
