Hey friends! Adrianne here with you today to share an easy way to display (or give!) valentine notes and photos this year. It’s a great solution for handmade valentines, quick notes, or even store-bought cards. You can line them up on the mantel, a side table, or just leave them out to be found with a couple of quick supplies. I’m going to share with you how to make the valentine craft holders (which easily make up in minutes!) plus an easy handmade valentine card idea.
Supplies needed to make quick die-cut valentines:
- Brightly Colored Scrapbook Paper, 6×6 size or larger
- Manual Cutting Machine like the Sizzix Big Shot
- Darice Nested Heart Dies
- Baker’s Twine
- Glue Dots
These little valentine craft spools are so easy to assemble! Because I was using bright red washi tape with white hearts, I used a scrap of white paper underneath. Just trim it to 3/4 inch to fit the spool, wrap it around, and then wrap washi tape around the paper to secure it. No glue, no mess, just instant embellishment! The paper backing isn’t really necessary for tape you can’t see through, like the red glitter tape I also used, though I did add it just so that all the spools matched better.
Next, insert the paperclips into the spools. Because they’re slightly larger, you will need to use your pliers to squeeze the small end of the clip. Be sure the end of the paperclip with two loops is facing up. If you don’t get a tight fit here, you may want to add a few dots of craft glue to help hold the clips in place, but if you wedge the clips in tightly, it won’t be necessary. They don’t have to support much weight.
Your valentine craft holders are as easy as that! If you’re planning to display a photo or a store-bought card, you’re already done. But if you want to add a more personal touch, then here’s another fast valentine craft idea.
Fold a 6×6 paper in half, and position a heart-shaped die so that it overlaps the folded edge. Die-cut the paper with your favorite manual machine (I use the Sizzix Big Shot – you’ll use the Darice dies between the cutting plates, positioned on the platform with both tabs).
This will give you a heart-shaped card that opens up. Die-cut a second heart one size smaller in a coordinating or contrasting color. Try tying some baker’s twine around it for a simple but sweet embellishment, and then adhere it to the front of the card with glue dots. Instant valentine!
Another fun idea is to display photos around your home or office, or even drop a quick note on a co-worker’s desk to brighten their day! The spool note holders are great for more than just Valentine’s Day to show someone you care!
