Summer is one of the best times to sit back and relax and I know that a lot of us like to simplify during the Summer months, and that holds true for our crafting style as well. So today I want to share with you a great looking card that’s not only fitting for the season, but it won’t cut into your poolside time either!
Here’s what all you’ll need to create a quick and crafty card like mine:
- Stick On Rhinestone Crystal Stars
- Core’dinations Vintage Collection 12 x12 Cardstock
- Darice Embossing folder, 5 x 7 Plaid Background
- Darice Embossing folder, 4.25 x 5.75″ Fireworks Background
- Cuttlebug V2 Embossing and Diecutting Machine
- Queen & Co. Blue and White Twine Spool
- Queen & Co. Red and White Twine Spool
- Grosgrain Ribbon White, 3/8″
- Grosgrain Ribbon Navy, 3/8″
- Grosgrain Ribbon Red, 5/8″
- Core’dinations Sand It Gadget w/ Sand Paper
Directions:
Okay, first take some white Core’dinations cardstock and emboss it with a 5 x 7 Plaid background from Darice. This is one of Darice’s new embossing folder designs and it’s perfect for a Summer card… think red, white and blue Americana or picnics!
Now you will take a sheet of the red Vintage cardstock from the Core’dinations collection and cut and fold it to a 5 x 7″ card size. This will be your card base.
You will now take that plaid embossed white piece and cut it to a 4.5 x 6.5″ size. Apply a strip of red grosgrain ribbon across the bottom, securing the ends to the backside of the plaid panel using some double stick adhesive. Take a piece of white grosgrain ribbon and apply it over the red strip and adhere the same way. Continue by adding a navy strip of grosgrain ribbon above, but this time add a second blue ribbon and tie it off for accenting.
For more texture and fun, grab the Baker’s Twine and tie on some rows of the new red and blue twine from Queen & Co.!
Almost finished, but not quite… time to do a little more embossing! This time you will want to take a piece of navy Vintage Core’dinations cardstock and emboss it with a festive Fireworks background from Darice. Core’dinations cardstock loves to be sanded and distressed and it’s the greatest thing to do when embossing, so go ahead and sand over the embossed texture of the fireworks. Here I have used the Core’dinations Sand It Gadget with sand paper to get the job done! The sanding really makes the image pop!
You will now want to cut this piece down smaller as to fit onto the front of the white plaid panel on the card front. I have placed and adhered it behind the twine pieces. I hand wrote my sentiment with a red marker onto a strip of white cardstock and adhered it to the right corner of the fireworks. Then to finish my card, I added a few clear star rhinestones to accent the fireworks.
I believe this card took me a total of 15 minutes to create… easy peasy! Why not make it a simple Summer!
