Beautiful flowers are blooming all over my neighborhood and Instagram feed (ha!), the bees are out and it’s the perfect time to send a “thinking of you” summer card to someone special in your life. Do you know someone that can’t easily get out in this beautiful weather? You can bring a bit of nature to them with this “Sweet As Honey” card featuring honeycomb, bees and an adorable honey pot.
Supplies needed to make your own summer card:
- Silhouette Cameo
- Silhouette Download Card
- Honeycomb & Sweet as Honey Silhouette Cut Files
- Cardstock (two colors for base and black/brown for the accents)
- Yellow Stickles
- Goldenrod Adhesive Flat-backed Pearls
- Double-sided Adhesive Tape Runner
Step 1. Use your download card to purchase this honeycomb cutting file from the Silhouette online store and open it in Silhouette Studio.
Step 2. Right click on the selected image and click ‘Ungroup.’ Then delete the bottom honeycomb design.
Step 3. Select the honeycomb outline, click the ‘Replicate’ tab in the top right toolbar, select ‘Mirror above.’ Position the two honeycomb outlines to overlap just a bit in the middle, right click and select ‘Weld.’ This will create your card base.
Step 4. Cut the designs out. Be sure to use two contrasting colors because the detailed honeycomb image will be overlayed onto the summer card base.Step 5. Fold the card base in the middle (remember where you welded the two honeycomb outlines together?) and use a double sided tape runner to adhere the honeycomb overlay to the base.
Step 6. Now let’s cut out our accent pieces. Download this sweet as honey cutting file from Silhouette. You could leave as is but I cleaned up the ‘sweet as honey’ image to make it easier to cut (deleted the decorative swooshes and the outer layer of the circle). I also welded the honey pot top to the base so it would cut as one image. Step 7. Attach the honey pot elements with the double sided tape runner.
Step 8. Add a little pizazz to the card with Stickles and adhesive flat-backed pearls. To create the dripping honey look, draw a heavy line of Stickles and then gently pull strands down. You might want to practice a couple of times before you do it on the actual card.
The little details make this summer card extra special, don’t you think? From the irregular shape, the honeycomb overlay, the Stickles and pearls… it’s pretty awesome, if I do say so myself. My cat was hanging out with me while I made this; I asked her what she thought but she didn’t seem too impressed. Ah well, I love this summer card!
