I am SO excited to show you how to use the Heidi Swapp Minc Machine. The Minc is a foil applicator, sometimes referred to as a foil machine. This machine allows you to do gold foil printing (or any color foil!) at home. Once you invest in the machine, you can create custom DIY foiled art, cards, and more for a fraction of the cost of foiled scrapbook paper and artwork.
Today, we’ll test the machine out on one of the tags that’s provided when you purchase the machine. Tomorrow, we’ll talk about making your own designs and I will show you how to create a piece of art with a free printable!
Heidi Swapp Minc Supplies:
- Heidi Swapp Minc Machine
- Heidi Swapp Minc Transfer Folders (it comes with one folder, I recommend buying extra)
- Heidi Swapp Minc Foil (my favorites are gold, rose gold and mint green)
- Scissors (sharp ones!)
Step 2. Select your heat setting based on the paper you are foiling. You push the button to adjust the setting up. The higher the setting, the higher the heat. While it’s heating up, the light will blink red. Once it’s ready to go, it turns green and beeps at you.
The machine comes with a guide for determining which setting is best for your project.I think the guide is difficult to read so I typed it up for you – download the guide here. If you are unsure, setting 3 is a good one to start with. It might take some playing around to find the setting that works best for your paper.
Step 5. Your machine should already be heated up so feed the transfer folder into the machine. You’ll feel it when you bump against something in the machine and then it starts to feed it through without your assistance.
Step 6. Once the folder has come out the other side, remove the tag and pull the foil off. (Tip: I keep the piece of leftover foil with the reverse image to use in other projects). Voila! Look at that beauty!
That’s it for the basics of using the Heidi Swapp Minc™ Machine. You can add foil to any of the paper products in the Minc™ line – they are made for you to customize with the foil color of your choice.
You can also create your own designs to foil, which is what really gets me jazzed. Come back tomorrow and we’ll talk about that! In the meantime, tell us your favorite color of Heidi Swapp Minc foil! (Check them out here.)
