In the past I haven’t done much decorating for Valentine’s Day because Christmas takes so much out of me. However, since having kids, they love each holiday and always motivate (or push me) to make decorations. This year, I’m keeping it simple with a rainbow heart garland DIY. They are so easy to make and can be any color you want. I can’t ever do just pink or red, so I added other colors too. It’s really fun and adds some color to these gloomy winter days.
These hearts were made in two different sizes to add a little variation. I added holes to string them on string, but you could probably sew them with your sew machine just as easily to hang them that way. Either way, this is a great and very easy way to decorate for valentines day.
Supplies needed to make your own heart garland DIY:
- Colored Cardstock
- Heart Punch or Cutting Machine
- *if using a cutting machine download the SVG hearts that I used here
- Hole Punch
- Baker’s Twine
First gather your favorite color card stock. I love all the colors that come in this cardstock stack. Next your going to punch out your hearts or cut them out with your cutting machine.
Then punch holes to hang them on the string. If they’re going to hang on a mantle freely, I would recommend punching the holes higher up on the hearts so the hearts don’t flop around.
Finally, add your hearts to your string in your desired color order. And that’s it, you’re done. Hang your heart garland DIY and enjoy!
