Just about the time that the dry Utah heat becomes unbearable, nights start to cool off and before I know it, autumn is here! Although summer is my favorite, I do love the colors and textures of fall. I love bringing out the fall decor, and holing up in the house for a while with a crackling fire and comfy blanket. Today, my fall paper craft project combines a warm autumn color palette with rich texture from the use of embossing folders.
Supplies needed to make your own fall paper craft decor:
- Leafy Tree Trunk Embossing Folder.
- Dot Background Embossing Folder.
- Embossing Machine.
- Core’dinations 6 x 6 Darks Paper Pack (orange, yellow, red, brown cardstock colors).
- Smooth Kraft Cardstock.
- 3-D Pop-Up Adhesive Foam Dots.
- Core’dinations Sand It Gadget.
- Teardrop Shaped Craft Punch, Electronic Cutting File, or Template.
- Unfinished 5×7 Wood Picture Frame.
Using the manufacturer’s directions for embossing folders. Insert a piece of brown cardstock into the leafy trunk embossing folder and run it through your machine.
Remove the cardstock from the embossing folder and lightly sand the raised embossed areas with a Sand-It Gadget.
This will expose the lighter core of the Core’dinations cardstock, and give your fall paper craft project rich detail and texture.
Disassemble your frame. Discard the glass. You could choose to alter your frame. I left mine the natural wood color. Cut a section of kraft colored cardstock to fit the inside of the frame.
To add additional texture to your project, you can choose to emboss the kraft cardstock backing. I used a simple dot embossing folder.
Insert the embossed kraft cardstock into your frame and add the frame backing.
Using foam dimensional adhesive, attach your embossed tree to the center of the kraft cardstock inside the frame.
Using the foam dimensional adhesive will just add a layer to your fall paper craft project. You could also simply adhere the embossed piece with regular adhesive.
Use a craft punch, electronic cutting machine, or simply hand-cut leaf shapes from the orange, red and yellow cardstock.
Fold part or all of the leaves in half to add dimension and begin adding the leaves to the embossed tree image. I used foam dimensional adhesive for each leaf.
Use the embossed leaf images as a template for placement, but be sure to leave some of the embossed leaves exposed!
Continue adhering the leaves at the bottom of the frame.
Create a leaf “pile” with some leaves coming off of the frame, and “dropping” from the tree. Continue adding leaves, layering, until you are happy with the arrangement.
That’s it! A fun fall paper craft project to kick-start autumn!
After this fun fall craft, make this coordinating DIY fall leaves wall hanging – the perfect pair!
