Make a Stacked DIY School Supplies Caddy

Craft Basics· Kids Stuff· Paper Crafts

I will have three kids in school this year.  That means homework time in our house could get chaotic.  One way to cut down on the confusion is to have homework supplies organized and at the ready.  No searching for pencils, colors, or sharpeners!  Keep everything within easy reach with this cute DIY school supplies storage caddy.

DIY-school-supplies-caddy-Crafts-UnleashedSupplies needed to make your own DIY school supplies caddy:

supply-list

  • Paper Mache Round Box Set
  • Paper Mod Podge
  • Acrylic Craft Paint (I used Golden Brown)
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Washi Tape – (I used Tape Measure Print)
  • Glue Gun

Step One:  Paint the largest lid.  Set it aside to dry.

DIY-school-supplies-caddy-Crafts-Unleashed-3Step Two:  Cut the scrapbook paper to be as wide as the round boxes.  Use Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the boxes and seal the paper.

DIY-school-supplies-caddy-Crafts-Unleashed-4Step Three:  Add the washi tape to the large box lid, and glue the largest box into the lid.

Step Four:  Glue the medium lid inside the largest box, as pictured. Glue the medium box onto the top of that lid.

Step Five:  Glue the smallest lid inside the medium box, and glue the smallest box onto the top of the smallest lid.

Stacking and nesting the boxes this way creates a nice tower for your DIY school supplies caddy. The spacing is just the right size for pencils, crayons, and thin markers.  The box at the top is perfect for rulers, sharpeners, glue sticks, scissors, and other commonly used school supplies.

DIY-school-supplies-caddy-Crafts-Unleashed-5I’m keeping my DIY school supplies caddy on our work table, so everything is within easy reach for homework (or crafting!) time.  This would also be a cute gift to give to a teacher.  Fill it with supplies for a year and help the teacher start the year with lots of supplies!

This is such a smart idea, and I already have a set of nesting boxes that will work. I’m going to use it for my art supplies!
