I get really excited whenever I find an embossing folder that I know I can get multiple uses out of. When I saw this adorable photo frame embossing folder, the creative ideas started flowing! For only a few dollars, a great embossing folder is the perfect way to create custom handmade cards. Today I’ll show you several ways of how to emboss cards using this nifty folder.
Seriously though? How cute are these cards?
I have created all-occasion “Thinking of You”, “Happy Birthday” and “Love You Lots” cards. Same folder, three different looks! However you choose to fill the frames, and the sentiment you choose to add makes this the most versatile folder ever! I also liked the fact that it is fairly gender neutral. I will show you how to emboss cards, using the “Love You Lots” card I created as an example.
Supplies needed to learn how to emboss cards:
- Core’dinations Sand It Gadget with Sandpaper
- Core’dinations Kraft-Core Cardstock Pack
- Wall of Frames Embossing Folder
- Core’dinations Blank Kraft Cards & Envelopes
- Various Craft Punches, Electronic Cutting Files, Stickers, Templates
Select the color of paper you would like for your card. Insert the paper into the embossing folder with the kraft side facing DOWN, and the colored part visible underneath the “Darice” name.
Center the paper. I like using this Core’dinations Cut and Emboss series of paper for cardmaking. The paper is already cut, pre-sized to fit inside of an embossing folder perfectly. Makes the whole process so quick and easy!
Run the folder through your die cut or embossing machine as directed by the manufacturer.
Remove the paper, and using a Sand-it Gadget, lightly sand the top (colored) surface of the paper revealing the kraft core. It really makes the embossing pop!
Decide what orientation you would like your card to be. Vertical, or horizontal. This embossing folder can work either way.
Decide which frame you want your sentiment to go in. I just did some really simple computer generated paper strip sentiments.
You could also use stamped sentiments, or hand written ones. Adhere the sentiment to the selected frame. Then adhere the embossed piece to the card base.
For this card, I chose to fill the frames with hearts. I used multiple sized craft punches, and scraps of red paper.
Continue filling the frames however you desire. I usually like to use a pop-dot for one or two elements of my cards to make them stand out.
You can mix it up with colors and shapes to customize for whatever occasion you are giving a card for.
It’s my new favorite embossing folder, and I know it will quickly become your favorite as well! I hope you enjoyed learning how to emboss cards and will give it a try for yourself!
