I’m in the middle of an organizing spree and I’ve been searching for a cute way to display my daughter’s growing headband collection. I wanted something that was functional but also doubled as decor. So I whipped up this fun rainbow organizer for my daughter’s headband display in about an hour and I am in love. See how I made it so you can make one for you or your little!
Supplies needed to make your own headband rainbow organizer:
- 1/4″ Plank Basswood Plank
- 1/8″ Plank Basswood Plank
- White Acrylic Paint
- Color Acrylic Paint
- Hot Glue Gun
- Paint Brush or Sponge Brush
- Wood Clothespins
- Sandpaper
- Ruler
- Wood Shape (optional)
Step 1. Paint your wider basswood pieces. I used white as I wanted it to contrast with the colorful paint from the thinner basswood pieces. Use a piece of cardboard to protect your surface from paint!
Step 2. Paint your thinner basswood pieces. I chose fun, pastel colors but you can definitely create something different! A gradient/ombre effect would be great too and you can match it to your nursery or bedroom color.
Step 3. Once dried, attach your thin basswood pieces to the basswood planks. I started with the outer pieces, and then the middle (the middle attaches the two bottom basswood pieces together) and then the other pieces in between. I used hot glue as it holds basswood pieces well and because there won’t be a lot of weight to it anyway.
Step 4. Attach your clothespins. Again, I used hot glue. For spacing, it might help to measure it beforehand and testing the position of your clothespins before gluing them down.
Step 5. I eyeballed my spacing and ended up with a bigger gap in one spot. Instead of placing a clothespin on it, I added a wood leaf accent to make it more fun – a happy accident, if I say so myself!
And you’re done. Hang your headband rainbow organizer using some heavy duty command strips. Display cute headpieces or even jewelry. This functional organizer doubles as adorable wall art!
