Welcome to our second Organizational Week! We understand that storing and organizing your craft supplies is on the top of many New Year’s Resolutions. Enjoy this week full of tips and sneak peeks into our design team member’s spaces!
I must say I find it a little ironic that my first post here on Crafts Unleashed is about organization in my studio. Yep, I think that’s pretty funny. Why, you ask? Well, because my studio is more often in a state of disorganization than in the organized state I dream of. Like many of you, I’m sure, I’ve resolved to make a conscious effort to keep my studio more organized this year and beyond.
A year ago we moved into our current house that we’re renting and I had the challenge of fitting my massive stash of all things crafty into a small room that would also double as a guest room. This truly is a just a peek into my studio because the other corners of this room are currently filled with suitcases and shopping bags since my mom and step-dad have been visiting for the holidays.
The picture at the beginning of this post is a picture of one of my worktables. This table is about 3 feet from the foot of the queen size bed where our guests rest their heads and where my daughter hangs out and watches TV on a daily basis. Since I’ve had to create a studio in different rooms and spaces in 3 different houses that we’ve lived in over the last few years, I’ve realized that each space has it’s own challenges.
In my current studio, the small space has forced me to be very creative in my use of space and storage. Good thing creativity is one of my strengths! My biggest tip in organizing a studio in a small space is to go vertical. I use the space under my desk, on my desk and above my desk, all the way up to the ceiling. The shelving (which is shoe storage shelving purchased from a big box store) accommodates shoe box size photo-boxes .
Each box holds different supplies that are grouped together by like items. So one box holds brads and eyelets. Yes, I have a whole boxful! And another box holds all my embossing powders, Perfect Pearls and another box holds glitter. There are times when I work on projects at the kitchen table and this system allows me to just grab a box and get crafting!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek into my studio. Thanks for peeking!
