Are you looking for an adorable handmade gift for a special little girl in your life? This DIY mini dollhouse tutorial is made inside a paper mache suitcase and is such a fun toy for little girls.
- Paper Mache Box with Handle
- Assorted Scrapbook Paper
- Craft Paint
- Paint Brush
- Hot Glue Gun
- Craft Felt
Begin by painting both the outside and the inside of the box with craft paint.
To add more interest, you can also cover all or part of the box with scrapbook paper. Attach the paper with a glue stick and then carefully cut around the edges with a razor blade to ensure it fit perfectly.
Next is the most fun part… designing your dollhouse interior! There are two ways you can do this… you can make one scene that is permanently attached or you could make furniture for several different rooms (living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc.) and let your child change things around. Since I made this for my three year old, I kept it simple and only made one scene.
I chose a bedroom scene with a bed, dresser and a spot to hang extra doll clothes and I attached the bed to the inside of the lid and made a little pillow and blanket from craft felt. I chose to glue the pillow and one edge of the blanket to the box so that they wouldn’t get lost.
The dresser, clock and pictures are all made from scrapbook paper. The little handles on the dresser are tiny silver beads! Since the doll clothes are flat and can’t actually hang on hangers, I clipped mini clothespins to the small hangers. They hang from a mini wooden spool that’s glued to the box.
I hope you enjoyed this dollhouse tutorial. And if you need a doll to enjoy this new house, check out this muslin handmade dolls project!
