“Look What I Did!” DIY Refrigerator Magnets

Craft Basics· Kids Stuff

The school year has started, and we are falling into more of a routine around my house. I survived signing of all of the disclosure documents, and now backpacks are starting to fill up with homework, notes, and my favorite- art projects.

I wanted a cute way to highlight some of the greatest hits this year! Since most important papers at my house are easiest to find if they are stuck to the fridge, I felt like that was my best bet for this too.

These “Look What I Did!” refrigerator magnets are perfect for a “greatest hits gallery.”

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-2(Please tell me I am not the only one with a cluttered fridge front!)

These DIY refrigerator magnets really easy to make, and the heavy duty magnets I used can handle the bulk of pretty thick projects.

You could easily mass produce these for multiple children- or as gifts for grandparents. They would be fun to personalize with a child’s name as well.

Supplies needed to make your own “Look What I Did” refrigerator magnets:

  • Wooden 6″ ruler
  • Jolee’s 3D Going to School Stickers
  • Core’dinations Dark Core Tags (two medium yellow, one large white)
  • Alphabet Letter Stickers (your choice)
  • Red Baker’s Twine
  • Heavy Duty Magnets (two)
  • Craft Knife
  • Mod Podge Hard Coat
  • Foam Brush
  • Hot Glue Gun/ Glue Sticks

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-1The first thing I did for these DIY refrigerator magnets was arrange my tags. Place them where you like them, and then glue them to the back of the ruler with hot glue.

What I love about these Core’dinations tags is that they come already finished off with a silver grommet! Easy Peasy.

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-4Add stickers to the bottom tag.

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-5Embellish the rest of the refrigerator magnets project with additional stickers. I used hot glue to really stick the embellishments down.

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-6Using a craft knife, trim the excess tags even with the ruler.

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-7Coat the entire front of the project with Mod Podge hard coat. This will seal your stickers and  protect the project  from wear and tear.

Add some baker’s twine to the grommets in the tags.

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-12Turn the project over, and hot glue a couple of heavy duty magnets on each side of the ruler.

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-11After the hot glue is secure- choose what you want to display on your fridge, and go for it!

DIY-Refrigerator-Magnets-Crafts-Unleashed-3These “Look What I Did” DIY refrigerator magnets are an instant self-esteem boost for a budding artist or scholar!
