It’s almost summer time and you know what that means…kids are home and parents will soon be going crazy! I’m already trying to stock pile some fun and easy projects that will enrich and entertain them so of course, I immediately thought about all the crafts I use to make as a kid at summer camp. We used to always make a fun DIY lanyard keychain each summer and I can’t wait to teach my kids how to. I thought it would be fun to customize the project a bit and came up with these super individualized character lanyards that your kids are sure to enjoy!
- Bright Loopie Cord™ Spaghetti Strands for Kids Crafts
- White Plastic Shrink Film
- Sharpie Markers – 12 Piece Set – Fine Tip
- Round Hole Punch – 1/4 inch
- Split Key Ring: Silver, 22mm
- Coloring Book Characters
Step 1. Allow your child to pick out his or her favorite character from a coloring book. If you don’t have a coloring book that they like, you can always print off one from the internet as well. Begin by outlining the image with a black permanent marker.
Step 5. Follow the instructions included with the spaghetti strands to create your own lanyard. Mine were approximately 3″ long before I added the plastic character to the end. There are tons of videos online if you’re having difficulty making or teaching your child how to knot their lanyard!
Step 6. Once you’ve reached the desired length, tie excess strands in a large knot and trim. You can either leave the strands long or cut them right up at the knot. Just depends on the look you like for your DIY lanyard keychain!
