Making slime is a great activity to do with kids. My kids love to help make it, but they love to play with it even more. This is my go to, no fail, slime recipe. Making it rainbow slime makes it even more fun! Follow along as I show you how to make slime – and make sure to check out the how-to video below.
A couple things to remember is to use very warm water, keep mixing until combined, and don’t worry about the excess water.
Supplies for how to make slime:
- 2 Large Glass Bowls
- 4 oz of School Glue
- 4 oz plus 1 cup Very Warm Water (Note that water measurement does not need to be exact)
- Soap Dye Coloring
- Borax
- Glitter
- Glass or Plastic Jar for Storage
Step one. Squeeze 4 oz of white school glue into one of the glass bowls.
Step two. Mix in 4 oz of warm water. You can use the same bottle of glue as a measuring cup so you get equal parts.
Step three. In another glass bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of Borax into 1 cup of water.
Slowly add the glue mixture to the Borax mixture.
Step four. Stir in until the slime starts to come together. At first it will be really wet and gooey, then it becomes stringy and sticky, but the more you mix and time passes the mixture will come together. This process will makes white slime.
Step five: To make rainbow slime, add soap coloring and glitter to the white slime and mix. At first it will seem like the color is not mixing in, but keep mixing and the color will meld with the slime.
Continue with as many colors as you’d like. Your homemade rainbow slime is now ready to be played with!

Our slime isn’t setting up, is there anything to do to correct our problem?
My sister and I wanted to try it out on our blog but we discovered that it is pretty hard to find borax in Europe due to some weird regulations. Looks really cool tough!
