Simple Frozen Princess Crown

Craft Basics· Kids Stuff· Winter

I’m stopping by today to make your life a little easier.  Your little girl(s) is already playing Frozen 24-7.  You know all the songs, all the characters and are often forced to play bit-parts in the constant reenactment that happens in your toy room.  It’s about time your little one had a crown.  And, this simple felt frozen princess crown will look oh so cute on her!

DIY-frozen-princess-crown-Crafts-UnleashedThis princess crown is very simple to make.  I made you a free template, it requires just a few inexpensive supplies and with the ribbon tie in the back you don’t have to worry about what hairdo the princess is sporting that day.  So many problems solved, right?

Ready to get crafting, Frozen style?

Supplies needed to make your own DIY princess crown:supply-list

  • Princess Crown Template
  • Felt (pink, white, light blue and aqua)
  • Embroidery Thread (White, Aqua and Pink)
  • Ribbon
  • Fabri-Tac Permanent Fabric Glue
  • Clear Tape
  • Needle
  • Scissors

DIY-frozen-princess-crown-Crafts-Unleashed-1Below is a picture of the princess crown template.  As a first step, print out the template on ordinary computer paper.

DIY-frozen-princess-crown-Crafts-Unleashed-2Once you have your template printed, it is time to cut your felt.

Some of the pieces included on the template for this crown are detailed and small.  For this reason it is important to use clear tape rather than straight pins to hold your pattern in place while you cut.  Simply cut a piece of felt roughly the size you’ll need, just a little larger.  Then, tape the pattern directly to the felt and cut around it.

Use this process of cutting to cut out 2 crown shapes in aqua, 1 snow flake in white, 1 center gem and 4 diamond gems in pink.

DIY-frozen-princess-crown-Crafts-Unleashed-4Next up, time to stitch (just a little here, don’t worry!).

Basically, we are just going to stitch on the front details of this crown.  If you’d like to glue these on, that’s fine.  Use a hot glue gun.  But I have learned that while making things for my kids they are much more apt to pull it apart and destroy it if it is glued, than if it is stitched.  But, maybe your kids are less destructive than mine.

If you decide to stitch, then attach the snowflake to the center with some long stitches.

Stitch a gem onto each of the other points with longer stitches that form a diamond shape.

And, finally, use a running stitch to attach the bottom trim.

As a final step, grab the ribbon and cut 2 strips at a generous length–around 2 or 3 feet.  Then, using the fabric glue, glue both strips to either side of the back front-side of the crown.  Apply more glue all over, making sure to get up into the points, and place the back of the crown on top.  Press firmly.

DIY-frozen-princess-crown-Crafts-Unleashed-7And then, give yourself a pat on the back.  You just made a little girl’s day.  Well done.

Here is my little girly happily wearing her new princess crown.  She even refuses to take it off for bed time.

DIY-frozen-princess-crown-Crafts-Unleashed-8Happy Crafting (and role playing scenes from Frozen)!
